Building a new website is always a big undertaking. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at how we designed and built CurlyThemes.com — from wireframes to launch.
Design Process
We started with wireframing to map out the structure before touching any code. For design, we used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, pulling graphics from quality stock resources.Typography: We chose Aktiv Grotesk for its clean, modern feel that works across all screen sizes.
Infrastructure
- Hosting: WP Engine — fast, reliable, managed WordPress
- CDN: Cloudflare for performance and security
- Framework: Our own Dance theme as the base
Development Stack
- Visual Composer for page building
- Revolution Slider for hero sections
- Mailchimp integration for the newsletter
- SCSS/SASS for styling, compiled with Codekit
- Atom as our code editor
Child Theme
We developed a child theme to keep our customizations separate from the parent theme — making future updates smooth and painless.
